I have a place to go to, where there are 6 1/4sections that have a bunch of small ponds, and a large roost pond about 1mile away to the northwest of them. I love taking the dogs for a walk thru there, pushing some birds off a few ponds, parking my butt in a flyway spot and plinking away. The dogs have a riot and the hunting is good most days. Usually get Teal, Mallards and Pintails, occasionally a goose or two. That is really one of my favorite hunts.
Then when spotting goose fields, I generally like to look for a duck shoot somewhere in the area. Unfortunately, field duck shoots just don't last very long, most times. But,they make a nice filler in the afternoon or the next day if we need to give a goose field a day off.
Deer meat is something that is a treat to have in the freezer for me. And it seems like a lot less work than goose hunting. Can get up at a reasonable hour, don't have to be anywhere specific most times, and I like spot and stalk on them. I find a lot of fun in seeing how close I can get to one when I spot them first. And if moose were not on draw, I'd still likely be bowhunting in Oct., nothing more fun, than torquing a bull in the rut. Maybe the draw has helped me live a little longer in that respect. Sitting on the ground with a horny bull standing 6ft away, is a bit of a heart pumper.
