I am shooting a Remington 870 Express 3 1/2 " Magnum. I am currently shooting Kent Fast Steel 3 1/2" with a Modified choke for steel shot. It seems like I am not getting as good of a pattern as I would like to be. I currently shooting size BB shot. I was going to buy some different brands of shells and see which is the best, but I wanted to hear from you guys first and see if maybe I am doing something wrong with my choke, or if you have a different brand of ammo that you know works good in the Rem 870. Any advice would be helpful.

I have a 870 magnum express and have found out that hevi-shot is the thing to shoot with a patternmaster choke. I have shoot alot of ducks with 4 shot 3 inch hevi-shot and man does it do number on ducks. For geese I shot a remington sp-10 with hevi.

Go with you original plan and try different shell companies. It is the only way to get the best pattern for your gun. I can't tell you what would work bewst for you like you can't tell me what would work best for my pipe. They are all a little different

You will just have to check things out to see what works best. I used to shoot Winchester # 1/2" BB. They worked ok. Now I shoot Federal T/I and I absolutely love it. Just keep trying different loads with different chokes to see which one patterns then best. I strongly recomend that you go out and pattern your gun with exatcly what you will be shooting. It makes a difference. Good luck.

My Rem 870 express had the mod steel choke and didn't pattern well with bbs..patterned 30" at 30 yds but not consistent..lots of holes and fringes..using different brands..rem was worst..kent fasteel was ok and win high v w was good.....did a little better with#2s
Special ordered the Rem Full Steel Choke and switched over to #1s after re -patterning...does 22" circle well at 30 yds and about 28-30" at 40 yds
worked well on big Canadas, snows and the cranes loved this combo..even hit 3 teals hard.
