Frozen Choke

I went to tear down my old trusty Mossy 500 and found that the choke is frozen in place!

Tried using heat, and it would turn slightly back and forth, but still wouldn't come out. Then I soaked it for a day in rust breaking oil, and that didn't help either. So I must have really done a number on it with the steel shot that I was using.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I don't plan on putting any money into it as it will be my back up now for goose and duck and can always live with the full choke installed.

You used a full choke with steel in a mossberg. I did the same thing a couple years ago and the barrel had to be replaced. Mossberg did it for free, you just have to pay the shipping.
Freeze the barel.. Try to back it out. If that doesn't work, Freeze it again and then torch the end for 10 seconds and try that. If that doesn't work, send her back to Moss. I had a problem with my 500 too. I was using a mod choke and it jammed up too. I called a smith and he told me to try the above. Just a suggestion. Oh let us know if you get her done!!!

Thanks, I'll see if I can fit the barrel in our freezer in the garage (my wife won't mind, if I don't tell her!:D)...If it doesn't work, then I'll live with it.

Regarding using the full choke, it was the only one that came with the shotgun when I bought it used, and I didn't realize that it would be a problem--worked fine before with steel shot.

What choke do you guys use? In my new 935, I have the I/C in it.
I just got and 835 in January for the BDAY!! Thanks Dad.. I've been using the full in it because I've got the best pattern out of that choke, but in the off season, I'll be playing with some different loads and chokes. How's that 935 treating you? I love the 835 although first shot cold (below 32)sticks on ejection a little. I have to really throw it out to get it to come clean. Second and third have no issue. I loved the 500 it came as a combo deal slug barrel and a shot tube with Mod choke. The Mod worked great inside of 30 yards.. Outside that and I wouldn't even shoot.
I patterned my gun this past summer, so I will use the choke that I think is good for the distance that we are hunting. Imp or Mod should be good if you didn't pattern your gun, just don't use a full.
Quick update for those that are interested...

I got the choke out after soaking it in liquid wrench for a day and used a good choke wrench from my Stoeger Uplander instead of the piece of crap Mossberg provides...came out with a little muscle and sweat, but the really good news is the barrel isn't ruined and a new choke spun in with ease.

Needless to say, I threw the old choke away and won't ever use a full choke and steel shot with this old 500 again even if Mossberg said it's okay!

Still haven't shot the 935 yet...soon!
You got lucky. :D I gave up on mine and paid the $30 to send it back. :?
