I don't have a clue what you local regulations are for snows, but you'd better check before using one. Most states don't allow them in the fall at all.
As far as brands go... most of the one's you'll see at the sporting goods stores are decent. You do get what you pay for.
The real problem is getting good tapes and CD's. Many have a lot of background noise. I download the tracks to my computer, then use a digital sound program to clean them up.
We've always have 4 or 5 running during our spring hunts.. lower volume to hide the distortion. This year, I'm making my own.. I'm using a Delco CD/tape from a car.. 30 watts per channel/ 4 channels.. I'll power it with a small deep cycle battery..
