Just curious to hear your opinion as to why geese love to sit on the ice so much. In my area there's open water in some spots, but the geese just prefer to sit on a frozen solid lake miles away :?: Don't get me wrong, it's cool with us as we decoy them on these sheets but these late season birds always puzzle me?

Wouldn't they want to roost on the open water to keep it open???

I'm not sure. Maybe because they are used to that particular location? Or maybe swimming takes more energy VS just sitting on the ice.

i don't know why they like to sit on the ice, i couldn't tell you that. but next time u have open water and some ice around it, set a dozen or so full bodies on the edge of the ice. this is a goose magnet, geese can't resist.

i have hunted a lot of flock's and where they like to sit in the summer they have kept the ice open in the winter, it's like they take turns swimming also it's a no hunting zone so they know they're safe there...... :rolling: but they have to get there
