Going to hunt a field within 100 yards of a pond because we dont have permission onthe pond . the field we have permission on is a hay field. Geese often land onthe 1/2 acre pond and feed were cattle have been. You think I can pull the geese to the field. Or will the go ahead and land on the pond. It is a highly trafficed area for geese. We normally are either directly on a pond or no where near a pond. What is your opinion. Seen 16 geese on the pond bank this evening.

How close can you get to this pond? If you cannot pull them to the field, cut em off on their approach to the pond.

I have had two different experiences with this issue at several different fields.
First is one of our favorite early season fields and once in awhile we hunt it in the late season. We regularly pull birds heading into the ponds which are about 500 yards from our setup. Also birds will go into the ponds. We have a higher percentage that decoy than go to the pond.
One other field that we have hunted this year is bout a half mile from where we hunt. Birds occasionally use the field, but its right under their flight path. We are yet to even decoy birds going to that pond.
The short of it is, you don't know till you try. I would get as close to that pond as you can and make sure you kill them dead to keep them from sailing into the pond. Good luck.

I have found 9 times out of 10 they will land on the pond and then walk out into the field. Hey who knows this might be the 10th time. Good luck!
