My one buddy took my Honky tonk and said here let me tune that. Yeah now it doesnt work at all. My pc-1 is better than the honkey tonk but i cant seem to get that beginning growl. In the video he talks about the buzz by placing your teeth at the bottom of your bottom row of teeth to bring the back of the tongue up. No can do. So i try to use some voice to get it but i find it harder to break for me that way. Then on the primos video they talk about saying too it. I just get frustrated, should i try to flute call instead of a single reed?
I love the eastern shoremann, great call right there and I wouldn't have any hesitation recommending that call to anyone. BUT, for my money... I'd reach for a short reed and master that first. Even the master of the shoremann, Sean Mann himself, reaches for a short reed first and only grabs for that flute in certain situations. Do yourself a favor, get Bad Grammer or 100% All Goose and a decent goose call (maybe look at Buck Gardner's Workin' Man Calls- and don't let ANYONE touch the tuning!) and practice practice practice practice practice, then take a break and practice practice practice more and more! The only way you get better is to honk, cluck, moan on that sucker as much as you can! There are no shortcuts, just put the time in and you WILL get better. Its only a matter of time!
