well i tried my hand at cutting a decoy out and I think it turned out pretty well. I have a good template to use now for an active style decoy so now I am going to try and get a feeder and possibly a sleeper. The shadow Idea was good but I just free-handed one and I think its better than my last so I'm going to stick with it. If anyone is looking for political signs to use just call up the republican party offices near you, they were more than happy to give me some to use.

One question though, What do you guys use for steaks on these? And how do you fasten them to the decoy? I was thinking of getting some spray glue or something to glue the sign together, or I could split the sign up and get 2 decoys for every cut too since the signs are essentially folded in half. Would worry about durability though if I made it too thin.

ask them for the stakes that they use to support the signs as well... cheaper than trying to buy them.. that is what I use..just make sure you go with the (grain) of the sign when you insert the rods...they are usually not coated either.. just raw steel.. so rust is an issue.. but hey, what do you want for free..???
here they come mike,, cupped and bow'ed up get ready

got mine from a local sign shop for $15 a sheet and can get 13 per sheet. as far as stakes i get the rolled steel rods at the local hardware store and slide the rod up into one of the "holes" of the plastic bottom end... you can buy the sheet in practically any color you want, I went black and finished with grey/white and brown flat overspray. i made a paint template out of cardboard... and spent the weekend learning in the basement. One tip is to lay out the pattern on the sheet so that the corrugation runs vertically so you can have access to place the stake in. (the middle pic have 2 styles of feeders... staked in the center or front they are feeding... staked in the rear/tail they are aggressors). I intentionally leave about 10% of my dekes simply black and white. this GREATLY increases spread visibility when running traffic. i made them 5 years ago and only one or two got ruined (darn things jumped up and flew right in front of my line of sight when a honker flew in to low... )

really the only thing i am going to change is to paint the top few inches of the stakes neon orange (or something) i have lost a few of them during clean-up over the years...
