Alright well here's the story...Saturday was just not a good day for turkeys. Didn't hear a darn thing until about 7:30 am. Me and my buddy were standing out on a powerline and he hit his mouth call and one gobbled. He hit it again to make sure we knew where it was coming from. After that we setup on him and never heard another word from him or ever saw him.
Sunday I headed back to the club around 7:15 pm and tried to see where they were roosting. Sitting in the parking lot I heard 2 gobble about 300 yds off.
Monday morning I got in the woods before light and set up just over the hill from the 2 gobblers about 125 yds away making sure I didn't spook the turkeys. Right at daybreak they started gobbling at crows. I gave it a few minutes to brighten up and hit the call. Every time I would touch that call they would both gobble. I heard them fly down off the roost and break some sticks and mess around in the leaves so I called a little more and each time their gobbles were further and further away until they stopped gobbling.
Worse than that tho, a fella was filming his hunt and called up a BEAUTIFUL bird and he pulled the trigger and the shell didn't fire. Three times he pulled the hammer back and pulled the trigger and nothing. He was nearly in tears. Turned out the firing pin struck the primer but the primer was seated too low in the primer pocket of the shell.
I'm not a hunter, I'm a wildlife population control specialist.
