Truck Bed Trailer

Postby doeslayer » Wed Jun 22, 2011 9:11 pm

I need a trailer to haul me decoys. I hunt a lot of late season hunts in Montana, so I cant have traiter that is too heavy to drag through the snow. I was thinking about a truck bed trailer with a topper, or maby with high sides and a tarp over it. Does anybody use a trailer like this, and how many decoys can you haul with it?

DOESLAYER.....Take this pic and print it, and take to a trailer dealer, it is 6'6" wide 12' long X 2' high, it works great for a starter trailer, it holds 40+BF, a ton of shells, layout blinds, with the fold down ramp you can drive a quad into it, I use it to pick up deer out of the fields when I do a doe clearing for the farmers, as you can just drag the deer up the ramp. You will of course need to tarp it in late season when there is snow though. I got it for $1000 new. It weights about 1000 pounds. Used it for two years now, until I can get a new cargo trailer or make a career change as my 12" cargo trailer has all of my tools in it.

While a truck bed trailer may seem attractive it has the exact thing you are trying to avoid... weight. Truck framing is much heavier than most light trailer framing. The truck trailer will have extra weight in the axle. The box is basically double walled. I really doubt a truck trailer (with a topper on it) is much lighter than a small cargo trailer............

The thing about a truck bed trailer is I can get one for about $100.

I'd think it would work great.... long bed with something like a shell or like said, high sides. You could get a load in it. One good thing.... axle ground clearance
