Don't hunt Canadas, but am always willing to alter my tactics and play whatever game the birds want to. If they're unwilling to stop by for coffee, but I can coax them just close enough to where they don't want to be... I win. So if the greenheads or specks are rainin' into the field next to me and some can be pulled close enough for a low swing or two, I'm goin' home with birds.
Goose huntin' is spec-tacular!

When I was an Ohio Valley Canada hunter, we routinely landed our birds, then flushed and shot them. Now that I'm a Southwest Louisiana speck hunter, we don't try to land them unless very young or very old hunters that require that advantage are involved. Just a very different game here.

I water swat mallards and I flush the regal spoonbill if they land in my spread. Gotta give them a sporting chance

I should also add... I usually take them in those couple seconds before they land, I don't usually let them get all the way. For some reason I kind of lose interest in shooting them once they are on the ground. I love landing them and watching them/photographing them, but I don't often kill a goose that I let land in the set. Just doesn't do much for me, shooting a flushing goose.

Sort of like the difference between popping a balloon hovering on its string and one that's just been released, pretty subtle.

As far as shooting goes Rick, agreed. Not a challenging shot either way. The difference comes in the excitement factor, when they are backpedaling I am still excited from them working in, that anticipation. Rising up on a bird with that " Oh Sh!t" look as they try to get out of there gets me going. After they land however, the excitement fades, and it just becomes shooting.

Once December comes, all bets are off. It's time to shop.
I don't hunt geese, I just act like I do in the internet.
