Summer training begins

Postby waterfowladdict » Tue Jun 28, 2011 12:38 pm

Just bought My hunting dog tanker (tank) a GHG dog bind. We usually only use him for duck but this year i want to involve him in our goose hunting this year. He just turned 5 and i cant believe how hes been listening and is getting adapted to the blind. He wasnt so apt to go in at first and within 3 days of training he now goes in on "kennel up". Theres many stages of what i need to get him familiar with for our training till sept such as not breaking, calling and not getting to hyped up when birds are locked. Sounds like alot of work but i feel like hell be ready and cant wait to use him in the field this season.

Any tips you have on training any of these parts you had problems with feel free to input.

Thanks for taking a look

Try to simulate what you will be doing while hunting as much as possible before the season. Put him in the blind, call, get the excitement level for him up and perhaps get some popper loads for your shotgun or have a buddy throw a bird for you and shoot a blank .22 pistol. Set your standards of what you want him to do from the beginning. when he breaks dont let him pick that bird up, everytime. Make him earn the retrieve by being steady and quiet.
