Remington SP10 aftermarket choke tubes

Postby Duckula » Mon Jan 30, 2012 9:00 pm

Hello. I am looking for advice on choke tubes for my Sp10 for close in shots ......25 -30 yards. I am currently in a bit of a shooting slump with the rem modified and IC chokes. I have been missing such close and easy shots it is ridiculous. I was thinking that maybe there was an aftermarket , pattern opening choke tube available but I can't seem to find anything?

Thanks
Jeff.

Try contacting "Briley." They should be able to help you. You may be a bit limited with the fact of your gun being a 10 ga. But I'm sure they will have some options for you! Also, try good shooting form. Keep your cheek down on your stock. Many seasoned hunters get a cheek creep and forget to get selttled down on the stock. We get too busy watching and anticipating "kill" shots/ but keep missing those easy shots because we are not settled with cheek down on the stock. It happens to the best. Be aware of your shooting form and make those adjustments. You may not need a different choke tube afterall. Good Luck!

Thanks Al, I will check with Briley and check my shooting form. I agree with you that something might have changed with my positioning. I never had a big problem with hitting easy targets before. One thing I did change recently was to install a high viz front bead on the barrel although I can't honestly say that I even see it when shooting .....that would be an indication of improper gun and or shouldering position would it not?

I'd say so Jeff...Last season I friend and I missed a group of mallards at point blank...similar to your comment about missing birds up close. We are veteran shotgunners for over 35 yrs. We were embarassed to say the least, but came to the conclusion that we were anticipating the kill shot to move on to take another bird aka double, tripple....which never happened. We realized we never "got down" on them. That's getting your cheek settled down on the stock. A dbl. beaded barrel can help you acheive this form as well. Having the "rear" bead lined up before you shoot. Practice on some clays during the off season. Most of the misses are due to the shooter...not the gun/ or choke. In the heat of things we all point , but still need to "aim." That's what those beads are for...Good Luck!

Big Al I think you have nailed this one, I know when my easy shoots are a total miss it's me not the gun ,choke, ammo, It's me not useing the proper form and when I stop and look back on the shot I can see a perfect miss every time !
