Question about obtaining a stuffed goose as a Christmas gift

Postby TheAwesum » Mon Nov 24, 2008 4:27 am

Hi everyone!

This year for Christmas I've been thinking about buying a family member a full-sized stuffed and mounted goose.

I was hoping you all might be able to give me some advice and maybe point me in the right direction as to where to shop.

I don't have any friends or family that are active when it comes to hunting, so I'm looking for someone that already has a goose that they are looking to sell. I checked eBay and didn't find anything. I live in the Denver area. Where should I look to shop for something like this? And about how much would you expect I'll be spending? Thanks everyone! :D

Hardest thing about buying a mounted bird is the laws around mounted birds. In order for a business to sell a mounted bird that bird must be a pen raised bird. I know that some people in my area have gotten in alittle trouble for selling birds they have shot. Be careful of what you buy IMO.

If you have had no luck searching the internet, I would try the old fashion method. Make a point of visiting a local Hunting and Fishing store. Ask there about where their customers get their trophy taxi. work done and then give them a call. Or call a Hunting guide outfit in the phone book.

Taxi birds are not cheap. Expect to pay a couple hundred. And remember, a Goose is not a small bird. It takes a bit of space, especially if the wings are spread.

Check with some taxidermists. Sometimes they have birds that are mounted or "stuffed" that clients never came back for. I'm sure they would love to sell you one.
