post-season testimony about BlindSide ammo effectiveness

Postby dsapp » Tue Jan 31, 2012 3:37 pm

what has everyone seen, heard, or experienced at the butt end of a gun?

My hunting group concurs that BlindSides do relatively more damage to birds, and easier take-downs than any other shot shell... within decoy range.

My hunting group also concurs that the BlindSides killing potential fails horribly at 50+ yards.

with that said, I will use it again next year for decoying ranges, because I can open up the choke and get a better pellet count compared to other shells in the same pellet size... and they do seem to smack the birds good inside 40 yards.

we think the BlindSides are the best close-range shells, and Hevi-Shot are the best long-range shells.... for a good middle-of-the-way compromise (mid-range), I'll just go with round steel pellets. I killed more birds with Winchester Xperts this year than anything else. I love the economy of Walmart Xperts!

nothing scientific, just observations that were agreed-upon by all in our hunting party... shooting both 3" & 3.5", every kind of choke in appropriate situations, in almost every kind of modern popular auto-loaders (Benelli, Beretta, Winchester, Browning, Remington, and Mossberg).

did anyone experience anything different.? :welcome:

From what I found the pellet count is not more than other shells and I've paper tested to prove this, while it did have better than some it still was not able to beat the pellet count of a $10 box of Federal speed shoks.

Shells comapred were the following at 35 yards with modified choke through a SBE2. Pellet count was inside of a 30" circle. Notice were comparing a 3" Federal to a 3.5" Blindeside.

3" #2 Federal Speed shok 3.5" #2 blindeside
99 pellets on target 102 pellets on target

Both had great patterns and anything inside that 30" circle was dead. But I dont know how one could justify spending $15-20 more a box for 3 more pellets inside a 30" circle. To each his own I guess.

I meant the pellet count in the shell... payload... not pattern counts.... bigger payload can mean a killing density larger than a 30" cirlce.. that's the advantage of the Blindsides.

Theres really not, I've got the paper to prove. I was using a much bigger peice of paper than 30" circle. Sure theres other marks outside the paper but not enough density to kill a bird, unless you get lucky with a head shot.Every shell is going to have flyers that will not be in that 30" circle. These flyers are what cripple birds, and pull feathers as you watch them fly away. I guess the point I'm trying to make is if theres 100 hits in a 30" circle it doesnt matter if the pellets are round, sqaure, or flitestoppers. 9 times out of 10 thats a dead bird. This is also going to depend on the shooter. While payload is important, pattern is the most important, hence why I think alot of people like these shells not because of the sqaure shot but because they seem to pattern very well.

the guys in my hunting party did not like it. the birds they did kill the pellets where just inside the skin. everyone switched to 100% hevi metal
