Not Goose Calls

Postby goosehunter64. » Sat Aug 28, 2010 12:39 pm

But these little poly J-frame ducks call rock. Solid poly they look and sound like acrylic, your buddies won't be able to tell the difference. At $35.00, ya gotta gitcha one or two.
I got three, I was so impressed. They really compliment my acrylics.

Here's a single reed green insert, single reed black insert, and double reed green insert:

A sound file I made up for a guy on another forum. I was very winded when I made this up.

You like the double or single better? I am going to get one and not sure what is better. I will be hunting the Mississippi and other small lakes.

The double is loud and aggressive...but if I was hunting those spots...I'd go with the single.
Now..I must admit...I did some retro-fitting to one of the calls with the green inserts. They both came as doubles...and i turned one into a single. Sounds simple enough to do...but unless you have the right stuff to do it....it won't work.
Now...the green insert is a little louder then the black insert call....maybe it's they way I have them set up.

Either way....you will not be disappointed. For as inexpensive as they are, just get a double and single. Ask Rick, to turn one of them into a single for you.
Good hunting this fall and winter.

Oh!!...I modified the double..to sound even sweeter then you hear in that video.
I did that by shortening up the top reed...by about half the thickness of a credit card. It is the best double reed I have ever owned...honestly 8)

Well for a college budget I think I will start with the single reed. Have you tried the multi-mallard?

I did briefly. Sweet sounding call....but not near the volume in my opinion. More of a close in or finishing call...not that's all bad. Super timber call IMHO

Well for $35 I will get the single reed! Once I get it I will be sure to give some feedback. I have his whisperer right now and love that call!

The whisperer is a great call. These poly calls are amazing...you'll be more then pleased.
Which color combo are you picking up?

Not sure what color combo yet, Rick only offers black, and the black and fluorescent green correct?

I think I am going to go with the black and yellow (green)! It looks green to me too.

Good idea. Maybe I'm wrong because I haven't spoken to Rick...is that I think the green insets are bored differently and IMHO, and louder.....and lots of control from low to high notes.

I have the multi-mallard version. It is a sweet sounding call. I think it is pretty loud, but I don't have the others to compare it to, so goosehunter64 may be right about it being quieter. I'll have to be honest and say that I'm not real sure when I would take my finger off of the tuning hole (maybe when I'm trying to really scream at those long distance birds), but I'm also pretty new to duck calling so maybe there is more uses for that tuning hole than I know of.

Goosehunter, I would like to hear a soundfile of your modified double reed (the one where you shorten the top reed).

I'm a Duck Commander guy, but I would definitely buy some more of these Winglock poly's.

I'm in Wisconsin right now...I'll do up a soundfile for you tomorrow sometime when I get home. You'll not believe how sweet it sounds
I'm sure at different points of having your finger off and on, over the hole...it should scream pretty good.
