New trailer

Postby Pudelpointerfan » Sun Dec 05, 2010 12:27 pm

I shopped and shopped. Drove halfway across the state and back and finally found the right trailer. It is a Wells Cargo 8x12x6 that was designed originally as a 4 wheeler/snowmobile hauler. Barn doors front and back, trailer brake(needs work), but other than that is in good shape. We will be removing the 'motorhead' decals this spring and doing a ton of customizing.

With a little TLC that will be one fine trailer.

I haven't done anything to the trailer other than get it licensed as of yet. It has been on a hunt or two and I can tell you that I don't know how we hunted without it. Decoy set up and take down times are much diminished.

Recent hunt. Gunnr with 7 of the 8 geese he retrieved that day. As you can see there is plenty of room for more decoys in this trailer.

Once we get the trailer brake fixed I am thinking that the front barn doors will allow us to put the dog kennels up front.

Gotta take that green tarp out. Goose blood on the floor gives it character :rolling:

i think you could easily make a shelf that hangs down from the top to hold lay out blinds, thats what im going to do when i get my trailer!

The green tarp has to go. My buddy slipped and fell on it because of his snowy feet. We are going to take it out and line it with spray on truck bed liner. We've got a ton of other plans for the trailer. But for now it will stay as is because goose season isn't over yet!!!!

+1 find a carpet store or a cpt installer.. stores are always throwing away used carpet.. or talk to an installer, probably give away a piece of rug, to you for a six-pack of beer...try to find a piece of level loop commercial style carpet, and if your trailer floor is wood, you can usually just staple it down . use a carpet upholstery stapler..it should work temporarily until you get your spray-on bed liner done.. heck, I would come over and do it, if I was in your part of the state.. that is what I do for a living..

Carpet is probably not a good idea. It would be hard to keep somewhat clean. After a while that carpet would be disgusting and smell. If It got wet it will start to mold on the back side and even start to rot the wood underneath. I hunt in farms that just spread manure, lots of luck getting that smell out. Just my opinion.

good point lg 28, if it gets wet ..but if using it temporarily, I would just yank it out at end of season. or replace the carpet when it gets dirty... so it doesnt get a chance to get funky smelling..

Now my decoy trailer is a 'roughing it' camper, just add a cot!

No doubt! Should make for very easy access! Looks heavy too. May want to go a size or two larger on the tires if you plan on driving into any fields...
