Very cool. I'm still looking for my first band of any kind... Is it common that if a bird has a neck band that it also has a leg band?

as far as i know if it has a neck band it has a leg band. From what i know the reason they use neck bands is that it is easier for the scientists to keep track of family groups from far away. They can sit on the side of the road and not disturb them by just looking at the neck band threw binoculars rather then having to catch them and read the leg band

If they have neck band, they always have leg bands, the neck band is considered "a secondary" band, I called in one with a radio-telemtry neck band, I took a picture in detroit the bird was banded 9 years earlier 2 miles from where i took the picture. Called in just neck band #

Mine was shot in Michigan but banded in Tennessee

Where was it banded, Janesville, or is that where you shot it?

Usually neck band done at same time as leg, certificate will show it as an additional # several spaces off of band #

I hate all of you neck band having people... congrats guys, I have seen them scouting twice on canada's one was orange one was red. The red, saw once and never saw again, the orange hung around the area for awhile but never saw him in the field, always on the lake. Saw about 5 down in crab orchard refuge after the season about 3 years ago, always awesome.

Congratulations on your collection, but why don't you report them anymore?
