last hunt of the year not a happy ending

Postby honkhonk » Sun Jan 29, 2012 11:58 am

fri. evening i seen 12 geese on a pond. We hunted there sat. morning we were in a field about 100 yards from the pond. We seen about 3 different flocks of 30 about a 1/4 mile away going to the x . we were hoping to traffic these geese. they wouldnt even pay us no mind. So that evening we decided to hunt a flooded river bottom and try to kill some ducks. On the way in we jumped about 50 off the pool we were going to hunt. so once we got set up . Ducks flew for about an hour. 2 were about to land. and we didnt shoot because we were waitng on the other 15 to land also. They flared. then right at last shooting light we decided to pick up decoys. Just as we stood up 2 flew in and flared. It was not how we wanted the season to end but overall we had a fun season. I hate to see it go.

Ya learned a valuable lesson there, honk'. Ya get greedy... ya go home needy. So many times you'll have two greenheads workin', then they turn into twenty, then fifty, and instead of callin' the shot when ya get two set in right, ya wait... and wind up with none. Done it too many times myself.
Goose huntin' is spec-tacular!

Advice from a snow goose hunter I hunted with a few years ago. Taketh what the good lord giveth. I've learned that lesson well. That's what I practice now on all hunts.
