Kennel built inside trailer??

Postby RLXFXR » Thu Oct 13, 2011 9:33 am

Hey y'all,
I've got a 6x12 v-nose goose trailer. I was thinking about building a permanent dog kennel in the front v portion so that I don't have to always lug the Vari-kennel. I'd have it under a waist high counter which would be nice to have a maybe some shelves or cabinets above. You feelin it? Anybody ever do something like this? If so, please share pics or details. Tks!

Venting would be the first issue to consider if you did decide to do it.

Good point! Yes, I should have mentioned that the trailer is vented already. Thx

I would be concerned about getting into an accident with the trailer and having your dog back there. Or having the trailer come un-hitched and causing harm to your dog. I thought about doing it too, but I just came to the conclusion that it'd be for the best if my dog just rode with me in my truck. I just put the kennel in the back of my truck and leave it there till the season is done, sucks. But I think it's for the best.

And trailers can come un hitched during transport. I have the dents in my bumper to prove it. Thank god for those back up chains. Always lock your hitch down. Don't rely on that lil pin to hold the hitch down.
If I was a goose I would want to land in my decoys.

That's what I was trying to say, but I lacked the words. Going down the highway at 65 and have that trailer come un-hitched with your dog inside would not be any fun.

or driving around a round a bout at 30 mph. If it wasn't for those chains I would of been like wow that trailer driving next to me looks like mine...Oh F@#$, it is mine. :rolling: Yeah that sucked

Try getting in the trailer and have someone pull you around and see how it rides, maybe hit some bumps while your back there before you stick your dog back there. It can get a little rough in some trailers and i wouldn't put a dog through that myself.

I'm all for the safety of my dog or dogs in general, but how is it any different than the professionally built dog trailers that many of the pro dog trainers use? They are widely used and accepted in the AKC arena.
