HyperSonic Wads?

Postby fisherhunter460 » Sun Jan 08, 2012 8:54 am

My dad is convinced that hypersonics are the best goose load ever. He has yet to prove that they are. This past weekend, Friday and Saturday, he had missed time and time again. I thought them misses Friday may have been due to flock shooting. Then found out Saturday that he couldn't hit singles landing in the decoys at 20-35 yards. Even let one land and he walked it up and missed. The wads coming out of the gun look destroyed. Some times one petal would be left. Sometimes two of the petals didn't split from each other. Over all they looked like some one let their pup chew on the dang things. Tried them out of both factory mod and a wad stripping full choke. Same results. He won't take the time to pattern them. Any one else have problems with these loads?

yeah... they kick like a friggin' mule. We've had three or four guys get suckered into buying them over the past year and none of them thought much of those loads. All of them ended up using the last part of the box as swater loads. As far as actual problems, I haven't heard of any, but I still am yet to find anyone other than Kandahar that likes the way the load performs.

You can add me to list that likes them. I did find that they are somewhat gun specific. Some guns they aren't going to shoot and pattern well and others they are get great patterns. Out of the four guns that I use, they only pattern well out of an 870. I get even better patterns and results when I switch out the 26 inch barrel for the shorter turkey barrel. Pattern percentage jumps up from 67% to almost 85 % with a factory modified choke.. The shorter barrel is heavier and I am beginning to think that the shorter barrel vibrates less than the longer barrel. As for the wads they all look like that all chewed up.

I personally didn't like them. Not saying they are junk but it wasn't for me. The wads do look funny though. Found a few on the ground and was like look at these things. Same goes for those new blind sides..Just wasnt for me.
If I was a goose I would want to land in my decoys.

Shot a box of 3 inch 2s I bought cheap last season and liked them enough to look for some this go aound. Nothing but long bullets left by the start of the season here, so I bought a couple o' boxes. Though the 3 inch loads pattern better out of my gun, have no problem killin' birds with the long ones. They do stomp ya compared to anything else I shoot, though.

Nothin' magical, but a good load for me. Maybe the extra speed helps compensate for my aimin' and puts a few extra pellets in the grill. Do know more birds hit the ground stone cold dead rather than wantin' to play tag. I'll take any help I can get huntin' the stubble with no dog.

I've killed birds with them too. I thought I loved them for shooting long ranged snows last spring in Missouri. Winged a 40 yard canada Saturday. They do reduce the required lead a hair, but not enough for me to buy another box. I had a single land in the decoys Saturday morning. Walked him up an shot at him at 20 yards, pumped out the empty hypersonic and plastered that bird with a heavy metal. Something says they don't pattern that well. I'm just glad to know those wads are supposed to look all chewed up out of the barrel.

Absolutely love them. I use an 870 with a Briley Goose Getter for honkers and EXLR for Snows. My son uses a Benelli with factory chokes. Has no problems with it either. Used 3in 4s and stoned honkers up to 40yds. The only issue is one guy uses the Maxus and it doesnt fire all the time. The pin hits but doesnt fire.
