Postby jrgoose » Wed Jan 11, 2012 9:26 pm

Has anybody used these decoys? And what would be a better buy between the flambeau fb and the tanglefree fb??

Tangle Frees. No contest. The flambeau FBs have only been out for less than a season and are already on clearance everywhere I see them. They are also getting poor reviews. While they have a bunch of dif poses, they colors don't look right to me and they also seem to have stability issues.

I refuse to buy anything flambeau, as the 2doz flambeau decoys we had 14 of them cracked and sank, and ALL the paint was gone 3rd season.

I have hunted with a buddy who had a doz tanglefree FB's and he busted the back out of 2 of them as they are a thin brittle plastic and he just poked the steak right through them.

for the price, and durability I would go with Hard core full bodies. I have been beating mine all season and have yet to find something I dont like about them, yes they are a touch small but the its actually the size of a normal goose. I am picking some more up when Roger's restock in the next week or so.

Man those tanglefree's look good.
If I was a goose I would want to land in my decoys.

Not sure where or when he got his, but I was litterally jamming my TF FBs into the hard frozen ground while the were attached to their stakes. and they flexed but never broke. I of course made sure I pushed down on them with my palm right over the stake. I find they are if anything, too heavy, with over-thick body plastic. They also shine a lot less than the HCs imo.

Ive been looking at the hard core FBs and they do look small. Im leaning towards the tanglefree FBs.

Flambeau used to make some pretty durable decoys. I have some duck decoys that are over 20 years old and still kicking. Alas it almost seems as plastics technology has taken a step backwards.

i own some TF's and hunted over the Flambeau's this year....The tangle free's are a much better looking decoy but a tad on the small side for my liking..thats why we have been mixing them with bigfoots...the flambeau's cant take the beating and the paint is not to my standards...imo

The hardcores and tanglefrees are almost the same size.

I've pushed the stakes through the back on 3 of my tanglefrees now as well. A few more bungees have busted, paint/flocking on the tails is chipping, and broke off a few more active heads. We hunted hard this fall, and the decoys, even when bagged and hung in the trailer, took a beating. I like them, and if you are an occasional weekend hunter, they should work just fine, but there are a few areas I believe need improvements. I'll keep the last 18 I own, just to fill a spread, but from here on out, all I'll run consistently will be real geese and whatever sleeper shells I find on sale.

Good price on those flambeaus, I'd try a dozen at that price; too bad midway charges so much to ship decoys.

I have never broke a single Bigfoot in 26 years, but the dog chewed up the head of one. Just get BIGFOOTS my friend you will not be sorry. Yea, yea, yea, I know I'm like a fricken' commercial about this. But they are the standard all others are judged by, and the others are found to be lacking in more ways than the Bfs

All decoys will finish birds, but Bigfoots will do it for decades. You can quote me on that!

My trailer or truck have no problem hauling the big things, even carry them into soft fields 6 per bag when needed. Worth the effort to me, I don't mind working my A off if that's what it takes for a good hunt. Also as noted in another thread I was finally able to damage a Bigfoot. Direct hit from 12lbs of falling feathers

So life like they even bleed, drove legs on one side about 1" into body, just need to put in a screw and pull it out

Personally I don't care for Tanglefree decoys at all. They sit way too high off the ground and don't look realistic at all. If i had to choose between the two I would go with Flambeau.

ummm, push the stakes in the ground a couple inches further? Although if hunting tall stubble, I prefer a taller decoy to increase visibilty. I bought a few to try out this year and they are plenty realistic in my opinion.
