Most years I would say 100% yes, cold temps and migrating will consistently cause geese to feed in grain fields such as corn, this year has been quite the exception. We had a string of several days were we finally dropped below freezing temps, ponds locked up, and I was still observing geese feeding in grass fields, Been very frustrating. At a buddies property on sunday he had reports of geese feeding in a grass pasture field...But our weather has been nothing close to average

I learned a long time ago not to try and reason with a goose! It used to be cold corn, Warm wheat. But that isn't always the case anymore. Sometimes I wonder if geese even know what a cut cornfield is anymore. A cut bean field that has sprouted 2-3 inch volunteer sprouts will trump all other food sources. Bottom line is be where they want to be and don't ask why! I've seen more geese in muddy, unmowed weed fields and waterways this year if that gives you any ideas

Keep in mine tha shoots and sprouts are far more digestable. While corn and beans are "high energy" foods they do take some time to digest and provide that energy. You could probably relate shoots and sprouts to a Red Bull, giving you a quick burst of energy.
