I shoot 3" BB Federal waterfowl(blue box) through a mod choke with a Remington 870 and I'm wondering how far the BB's will travel on a missed shot if shooting at a fairly steep angle.

Too many variables to consider with that question. Wind direction, exact launch angle, speed,etc... I've heard 300 to 400 yards is a good max range estimate. Not sure on that as I've never crunched the numbers, but that seems reasonable.

That's what I was thinking. More towards 300 I Think. A lot of variables for sure.
If I was a goose I would want to land in my decoys.

There was a thread about that waaay back. Ill try to dig it up. If I remember correctly, a steel BB sized pellet will fall to the ground around 360 yards when shot from a barrel elevated at 45 degrees...
