choke tube

Postby Rick L » Mon Nov 28, 2011 6:52 pm

Hi all new to the forum.
Im trying to find out about a choke tube. I bought a used mossburg 835 last spring. The choke tube in it says Extra full T&F Steel. Is this a steel shot tube or just lead?
Thanks

Its ok for steel. The lead only chokes are blued. The XF T&F steel will be full for 2 &BB btw. That's the same exact choke I use for later season honkers. Patterns everything I've ever put through it great. Accu-mag chokes are the best factory chokes imo. Almost no need for aftermarket waterfowl chokes...almost.

I did pattern it for turkeys and liked what I saw so I was thinking of tossing it back in for geese.

Here's the pattern from one of my 835s I have set up exclusively for turkey. 3.5"/2.25/Mag Blend at 37 yards (all I had to work with that day). That's 345 in the 10" circle and 65 in the 3" through a .670 e.d. TG-SSX.

You've obviously never seen the engraving on the side of a Mossburg Accu-Mag Choke for steel then I take it?

They are set up for particular shot sizes and the constriction that each will provide at the muzzle with those particular shot. As far as pressure?...no, but a bulged barrel and a stuck, or worse blown out choke and banana'd barrel could be the result of overchoking big steel shot, let alone a blown pattern.

Mopburg...pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft..pitch it and get a older Rem 870..late 80's. Mine is from 1986 and I bought it in 87.
Best out there. A Mod or PM choke in it..is all you'll ever need.
