Carlsons Extended Mag

Postby Fox_hunter42 » Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:27 pm

I purchased an Ext. Mag kit for my SX3. What a joke. First the little orange plunger they send hit the lift lever causing it to not move up and down. Second the spring they send is so long a stiff it causes the shells to jam against the stop so hard they won't feed. If they do slide back, everything hits so hard it sounds like it's going to break something. I contacted Carlson's and they said it was normal????? I cut 5 inches off the spring, at least now I can cycle 6 out of the 7 shells. I ground the plunger down almost flat, gave up on that and used the factory one. If that is normal, I might as well have a single shot because that's all I'm getting.

Sell it and buy a Sure Cycle from SRM or a Nordic Components extension. Those two have the best functionality with semi autos. I have an SRM 5 shot extension on my SX2, and I've never had an issue. I have a Choate 3 shot extension on my 870 Tac, and the Choate took some sanding and polishing to feed smooth.

I can't answer the question on who or where made. The package didn't say. When I talked customer service they said they would install a kit on one of thier guns. I thought maybe I would hear back from them.

This was a last minute purchase, and will probably only get used once, but I'm afraid to try it. Might just remove the plug and go with 4 shots I know will cycle. Pretty disappointing, I thought Carlson's was a decent company.

Why not? Legal for snows in the spring.

I said it to be funny, not serious. Legality issues aside, I would worry about safety....but that's just me.

I agree safety first. I just don't want to get there and have it fail, just when the shooting is good. I know if I leave it alone i can shoot 4 times. If I put the extension on and it fails to feed I get one shot, then I'm done. I am taking a back up gun, but I have never shot it, I had one like it and hated it, but I'm not going that far away to shoot 1 time
