Call Lanyards???

Postby cut_un » Wed Aug 24, 2011 1:03 pm

We spend alot of time talkin calls "on" your lanyards, just wondering what lanyards are you guys using? Are they custom made, store bought? Along those lines, how many loops/snaps do you have/use?

I just use a wal-mart brand lanyard. It's a four drop with just some simple braids, thought about getting a heavy hauler though.

Been making my own as well as game carrier take a look. It only takes about 2 hours to make its a five drop instead of knots i use springs to old the tension so the calls dont get loose. I also finished by tying snaps on the end so i can just undo the snaps to get the lanyard off instead of hassleing with it stuck under my collor or hood or tangled in overalls.

I've made a couple of simple ones in the past but if I were going to buy one it would be one of the heavy haulers.

My lanyard is from Winglock. Has the fleece around the neck. Pretty comfy. No complaints.

I've got the avery one that you can clip calls to. I'm using four call loops and a whistle clip. Not really sure why I even have a whistle clip, never use the dang thing. Three goose calls and a duck call filling it up. Probably will go down to two calls once the season starts, but since I haven't run the CompSlayer in the field yet, I'd like to keep an extra one on there that I know works!

Simply put a call you pay good money for deserves a quality lanyard! You need double loops for each call to insure if the call separates while in use you will not lose either part of the call!

Sportdog couldnt agree more except not all calls except a second loop most friction fit duck calls dont have a notch for them and if the insert falls off it will slip right out of the loop. Also being said i have seen inserts get lost even with double loops amazing what water, mud and retieving birds can do to a swinging lanyard around you neck. :D

True double loops wont prevent loss in every case, but there better than a single loop if your call accepts a second loop! Most acrylic and a lot of wood & poly calls can use the double loop.

I got one that Grounds sells with a neo meterial that is easy on your neck. Had great luck with that last season.

I've been using an A.T.C. Lanyard for a few years now. They are extremely comfortable and built extremely well. I have removable drops on mine so I can switch out calls if I need to. The removable drops also help you re-position your calls on the lanyard so they don't bang together.

I fell in love with the Heavy Hauler Limit Supreme lanyard 2 years ago. VERY COMFORTABLE with the wide neoprene neck strap and like most of the better commercial lanyards, you can change out calls and adjust the fit to your liking by just moving the snap swivels.

I'm making my own tomorrow at work. I like the idea of totally customizing your own. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

See, I would do that, but my A.D.D. just kicks right in and then I'm off chasin squirells! It's hard enough to keep me focused on the geese long enough to get a shot off sometimes! :rolling:

I also use the Avery DIY lanyard, but I cut the whistle clip off with heavy duty dykes. Then I pulled out the original knot attached to the clip. Then I retied it with one less loop wrap and made it the same length as the other drops. Then I melted the end so it wont come out. I carry two duck calls and three goose calls on my Avery Lanyard.
