buying a new shot gun ?

Postby lost n mi » Mon Aug 09, 2010 1:07 pm

Iam condering the vinci ,sx3 & the maxus as well as the m2 .I want something that i can use from clays to turkey & geese hunting .my problem is that I read that bennellis dont produce good patterns as well as that I have read that the maxus dosent either .does any one shoot clays with the 2 3/4 8 shot 1/8 .iread the the benelli inertia system isnt made to shoot lighter loads .just wondering what everyones thoughts & personal experiences are with these guns . they all fell good i like how the benelli fit & the double beads on them .I currently have a nova but it kicks the crap out of me .plus I dont think it fits me very good .this will be my first year geese hunting

i know this wasnt one of the shotguns you had listed but the gun i find the cycles light loads the best as well as the 3 1/2 goose loads would have to be the xtrema 2 i have yet to have it jam on me i also have a sx2 the xtrema seems to cycle alot nicer you should go shoulder it and see how it feels

just my 2 cents

Just out curiosity where did you read that benelli's dont pattern well or not good for trap and smaller loads??? I just got my benelli SBE few months ago. The gun is great. I've shot about 4 cases of target loads through it w/o any malfunction. I'm getting better with the gun and have been smokin some skeet past couple weekends. I think the SBE is one of the better guns on the market IMO. But everyone has preferences I guess. Guns are a love hate relationship.

I would go with whatever gun you feel comfortable with and the one that fits you the best. I would recommend staying with one of the three B's. (Baretta,Benelli,Browning). I had a SX3, great gun but it just didn't fit me right, looked at a Extrema2,another great gun, again the fit wasn't there. Next was a SBE2, I love the way the gun shouldered but didn't like the price. Went back and looked at them again, and again, and again. Finally decided on the SBE2. Glad I did. It's an awesome gun. I don't have a problem banging honkers and shot 100's of clays with the lightest loads and the gun worked flawlessly. If you do decide to go with Benelli, I would strongly consider the SBE2, that way you always have the option of using 31/2" The SBE2 will hold it's value better and have a better trade in value than the M2. No matter what gun you decide to go with, make sure you check them all out and get one that fits you properly. Good Luck!

No, I didn't have any problems with the SX3, I just didn't like the way it fit me. Of course the sbe2 americans are good, they just have a camo stock and fore end. I don't know if bass pro takes trades, I know cabelas does. (if you're near one)

I have a 3" X3. It has to be kept clean. I was using Winchester 4 paks from Walmart. About 80-100 shells and it would start acting up. Switched to Estate and seems much better. Never an issue with heavier stuff. I am beginning to think I too don't like the fit, but will have to live with it.

The wife has a Browning Silver, SWEET, but dont like to put it in a blind too pretty. It is easier to clean than my X3, but almost the same inside. It has the recoil spring a$$. like the X2.

Not sure where you live, but if anywhere close your welcome to take my X3 for a test ride

I haven't heard anything bad about the Maxus yet, The Beretta Xtrema works well. My choice was the SBE2. Of 7 other guys I hunt with, 6 are SBE2, one is Beretta. I don't know about down there, but, Basspro here has Xtrema on for about 4 or 500.00 less than the SBE. If you want to read up on them, checkout Shotgunworld.com , you will find many gripes and solutions to them on there about all of the brands. Some of the more vociferous ones have to be taken with a grain of salt. They are a mechanical device, they can screw up. Most problems with the three B's have to do with cleaning & maintenance, improperly done or lack thereof.

Cabelas has the SBE2 American,3 1/2",max-4 camo,28" barrell on sale for $1200, don't know if you have a cabelas card but right now if you spend $500 you get a $100 off.

i went with the maxus. i was in your shoes about 6 months ago. i was going to buy the sbe2 but i went trap shooting with my cousin and he has the sbe2 and he can not shoot light loads out of it. out of a box of 25 he has a few jam almost everytime. he brought it in how manytimes and the gunsmith said there is nothing he can do because it is not gas operated. it is relying on the kick of the shell to cycle. so i went in a did a bunch of looking around and bought my maxus. i shot a 23 pound tom this spring and over a case of target loads both at clays and crows. by friend just picked up the m2 and seems to like that but i believe its only a 3 inch. and thats the same cycleing as the sbe2

I would shoulder them all several times and choose the one that fits you best. If you do not like the way a gun fits, than all the gizmos and gadgets they come with wont matter.

Has your friend ever cleaned his gun? Could be one reason its jamming.

yea like i said he has brought it in several times and he cleans it after every shoot. he called and was told that he should stick with loads with more powder since it is relying on the kick to cycle. so he was pretty much told not to shoot really light trap loads. since he is on a trap shooting team he shoots extra heavy target load its called by estate and had no problems.

tell him to have a look at this-----it is something that needs to be done once a year or more depending how much he shoots
It's about cleaning the recoil spring & tube

well got one ,I decided on the sx3 3.5.It fits me good & the price was right .I also really liked the vinci ,it might of fit just a hair better but its only in a 3".the sbe2 was out of my range for now .I also like the maxus .ialso wanted a 26" barrel which I think I got the last one in the sx3 & there was none in the maxus or the vinci .plus the extra 100 shopping spree was nice
