Big Sean Calls?

Postby sojerseygsp » Thu Jan 19, 2012 12:48 pm

I am new to goose hunting and waterfowling in general. I currently use a SMH and like it, but I am looking to expand my options and I am looking for something a little bit faster than the SMH, but still able to go low. I do see a lot of great things here about GK and winglock calls.

I did a search for Big Sean's calls and didn't really find much info. Just wondering how the Big Kahuna performs. Is it similar to the SMH and not worth getting?

The closest Bass Pro or Cabelas is a 3 and 4hr drive respectively, which is a hike just to run a few calls. And it appears like they don't even carry the brands mentioned. I might be going to the Eastern Sportsman Show in Harrisburg, but it looks like the only call manufactures going there are Foiles, Sean Mann and Primos.

Any feedback is appreciated.

A bunch of those call booths fill up as the show gets near. I'm not sure how often they update that thing either. I doubt the GK guys are going to be there and I don't think I've ever seen Winglock there either (could be really wrong on that one), but there will be some other call makers there that could have exactly what you're looking for. Stop by the Zink booth and see what you think about those new ones. I'm hoping Field Hudnell shows up too because I'm pretty sure I'd buy one of his calls just to talk to the guy again. Awesome dude. I also read over at DHC that Jake Steppe is thinking about splitting a booth with Trevor Shannahan (Grounds calls & Black Timber Calls) but they aren't up there yet. I'd be patient, go to the show and see what's there and then make a decision.

Thanks Cashman. I will most likely go up there. I hope the call room fills more. The map has it pretty empty right now.

I got a good deal on dakotas last year and hope to get more again. I also bought the SMH there last year because that's all everyone I talked to said was my best bet.

I could barely call last year didn't want to walk up to a booth and have their call sound like a party horn and deter other potential buyers.

I wish the calling contest up there wasn't on a weekday. I would really like to see it.

Also I just found that Captain Bones Bait and Tackle is only about 1.5hr away and it looks like he has a huge selection.

Would still like to hear opinions on the Big Sean calls.

Thanks

Another piece of advice. The guys in those booths are there for a reason. They don't just represent a product, but they hunt just like everyone on this forum. NO ONE should ever be afraid to run a call in front of those guys. Every one of them started exactly like everyone else. Some are naturals, and some have put hours and hours of practice in. Run the calls, ask for help, play with everything you can get your hands on. Those guys are there to help, and if they aren't then they shouldn't be there. I look forward to the Burlington show every year, because I get to help fellow waterfowlers, and I get the chance to learn something new every year. As far as deterring potential buyers.......everybody looking at those calls knows they started just like you, they understand.....

The Big Kahuna has a big goosey sound with good built in back pressure which makes it excellent for beginners. The rubber inlayed tone channel gives it a more throatier big gander sound IMO than the SMH. Air wise I believe they are similar. If your looking to compliment your SMH I would go with our MR. BIG since the SMH is already is a deeper sounding call. MR. BIG is my favorite call in our line up and the higher pitch has been proven to be down right deadly on canada geese of all sizes. Big Kahuna or Mr. Big either way you will not be sorry. Plus, Sean Hammock's customer sevice is top notch.

Big Seans calls are fine ---I've never had one but would like to
-- but I disagree that SMH's are deeper sounding calls-- any I have had are higher pitched--I know,I know its all tuning -- but thats what I have experienced -- listen to Foiles sound files

Sorry I should have been more specific. I meant they are deeper sounding in comparison to the Mr. Big. To clarify the Big Kahuna is much deeper than the SMH, but the SMH will have a deeper range then the Mr. Big.
