Best Face Mask ...?

Postby herbeapuce » Tue Nov 01, 2011 9:04 am

Hi.

Can some of you recommend a GOOD face mask.. something that will be comfortable and that won't slide on my face . whether is is a full mask or a half mask doesn't matter to me. I already have a hat. I need something what will move along my head mouvement...

what do you wear ?
( no paint please)

I am hunting in a layout blind...so you can imagine my head will be spinning like Taz (Tasmanian Devil in Bugs Bunny) trying to locate the birds....

I'm hardcore... Face paint baby! 8) When I'm not feeling so spunky I'll use the half mask I use for turkey hunting. Don't like it though as its tough to call and not end up with a wet face. Nasty. Usually I'm just using a Cold Gear head cover that covers up everything but my nose and cheeks, but those are usually covered by my hands calling anyhow.

Cabelas has a nice selection of facemasks. I think I have the versa mask.

What kind of layout blind do you have? Every layout blind I've been in you dont need a facemask. Theres usually see through mesh around the head that will hide your face just fine. A facemask just seems like it would be a pain, especially when trying to call.

it's a Roger's... but the mesh is a bit short. and in order to be covered I have to dig deep inside the blind and I can see nothing, but just above my head... not practical...
I don't think I am the only one with short mesh...I see some guys on hunting shows and their face are also out of the netting when calling...

but I might just add a bit more to the mesh.... that could work good...

I have a Natgear facemask. Here is a link.

https://www.naturalgear.com/products/152-knit-face-mask-109.aspx

It may look like something a black ops agent would wear, but its warm and comfortable. The fleece part is really soft against your face. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for any other mask.

I'm a newcomer to waterfowling, but a loooong-time bowhunter. Hunters Specialties face camo has always worked for me. I just don't like the confining feel and restricted vision of a facemask or net, even in cold weather.

I also use face paint but i know what u r talking about . i dont know if any waterfowl company makes one but i have one made of neoprene that i use snowboarding, it fits fairly tight and stays put you whould have to cut a slit to get the call to your lips and colors are one solid print no camo but if u have glasses they will fog up with every breath unless you have wind to keep them clear
I told them stop or ill shoot

I put my camo on before i ever get out of my rig, 1 les thing to worrie about i allso keep a box of body cleaning towls in my rig so u can clean up afterwords, sometimes this last step is forgotten after a good day , you will get some funny looks when you get to town LOL :goodtimes:

x2  I love rolling into Rock Hall looking like a total tool bird sometimes, you seriously get some "that kid is nuts" looks from just about everyone  I've got some make-up remover pads I stole from my wife in a plastic bag that I use to clean up with. I just hate wearing a mask and ending up feeling like you just spit on yourself the entire time. Most of the time, if I can get away with it, I won't wear anything, but just remember all the cool kids rock the paint 8)

Ive had good luck with primos masks. They make full, 3/4, and 1/2 masks. I like the half mask the best.

I used a mask from the movie SCREAM for hunting snows :rolling: . If that is fogged up my glasses, then I use face paint.

I use different ones for different times of the year. Warm weather an open mesh full head so when its too hot I take off my hat. Glasses not a problem because I wear mono vision contacts in both cold and hot weather. Colder weather I'll use a warmer full face mask (wool) stocking type, but my son has to go to a bandana and roll down cloth type hat so his glasses don't fog up from breathing. We both tried the closed solid material type mask and found it very uncomfortable. I like my mask to have a mouth opening...for drinking (coffee lots of coffee) and not having to take the mask to do that.

Camo Skins makes a lt wt facemask in max 4. I cut an opening for the mouth in mine so I can call. I think they are around $10. For really cold days I bought an Avery max 4 balaclavia. I put it on and pull the top down on my neck, then put my ball cap on and pull the top back up over my cap right down to the top of my bill, then pull the front bottom of the opening up over your nose. When needed pull it down under your chin for calling. I got it at Mack's Prarrie Wings for $9.99 I also bought a white one.
