6 x 14 Bigfoot Trailer

Postby birddogz » Sat Nov 06, 2010 9:36 am

My buddy and I purchased a 6 x 14 Haulmark trailer this year and after a bunch of research and not finding a ton of good ideas, we decided to design our own storage system. It can hold up to 8 dozen Bigfoot Fullbodies while leaving over 4 feet in the nose of the trailer for layouts, blinds, duck decoys, etc. I know people will say the toss and go method is the only way to go, but we both like to keep things as organized as possible. Everything on the storage system is easily and quickly removable. We've used the trailer a ton this year already and have not had one single decoy fall out of the storage rack. Its a fairly simple design with 2x4s making up the frame and conduit with pipe insulation for the shelves. We still have to build some shelves up front in the nose of the trailer, but that can happen after the season. Just wondered what you all thought. Nick

Looks damn good. Sometimes us as humans over think the smallest things. Very basic but efficient..

When loading the bf's do you have a hard time loading the top row, or how does that work...looking at the pics i am confused you would do that easily. And also what would you have done differently now that you have built it. I have a 6x12 that i am looking to build a way to load/unload full bodies w/out stacking in big pile. thanks....

Nice and simple, I like it! I don't have a trailer yet (still a poor college student) but when I do eventually get one I think I might have to steal your design

Thanks for the comments everyone. As far as the top row goes, currently they are Bigfoot B2's that when turned sideways, easily slip up and over the rails. I tried this out from every angle to make sure that you could load all decoys quickly and easily. You can also put the original Bigfoots in on the top row, you just put the front rack support in and the dekes "stand" on the back of the row below them, once you get all six decoys in, you insert the back support and snap it in place. The only requirement is that all decoys on the top row have to be feeders. I've yet to try this out with any GHG dekes, I don't own any, but I think you could hang them by their feet upside down. Hope this answers any questions. Nick

What you have done makes a lot of sense and at a reasonable cost. It looks organized, space efficient, easy to use and provides reasonable protection for the decoys. I really like the padded conduit. I was trying to figure out an effecient rack to haul decoys on the 4 wheeler and you have given me an idea.

In my business I deliver to other places a lot of times. With this, I believe I need a trailer too. Thank you for sharing us an idea on what trailer should we get.

Do you remove the rear racks when loading the front row or do you just reach over them? Also, what do the rod ends sit in on the walls of the trailer? I like it and I may have to rig mine in a similar fashion.

Duckman, as I clear a row of decoys, I remove both the rods to make access to the row below it. The beauty of the system is that with the conduit hangers holding the rods in place, they just snap in and out. Heres a link to a picture of the conduit hangers I used, they were for 3/4" emt. If you're running bigfoots, send me a pm and I'll give you the spacing dimensions I figured out to maximize room.

I'll take two sir................That's a great way to do it, I've got a open trailer that I use now that will hold 4 dozen bigfoots standing side by side, but my work trailer that is 12X6 and 7 feet tall inside may need to be converted and I will quit my job, thanks

the best part about this idea is that you easily remove everything and still use the trailer for something else if needed.

Nice layout!!
Glad you shared this with us. I will need to use something like this for there really is not a easy way to stack bigfoots.
Looks like you should of put a patent on this layout :D
